The Chambers of John Coffey QC

  • Kevin was appointed Senior Clerk at 3 Temple Gardens back in 1983. He commenced his career in 1975 joining the Chambers of Lord Wigoder QC (now the Chambers at 23 Essex Street) moving onto the Chambers of Daniel Hollis QC (Queen Elizabeth Buildings) before joining 3 Temple Gardens as First Junior Clerk in 1979.

He says that the changes encountered since those far off days have been vast. The skill base in clerking a set of criminal law chambers has had to develop over the years as a matter of necessity. A Senior Clerk has to be a proficient business manager as well as retaining inter personal and marketing skills. Achieving the Legal Service Commissions’ ‘Quality Mark’ and retaining accreditation provides such an example.

Kevin started at a 3 Temple Gardens that possessed no new fangled photocopier but still relied heavily on carbon paper and good old manual typewriters – somewhat different today.

However, despite the changing face of IT and accumulated business management skills, Kevin says that 3TG has always strived to remain friendly, approachable and efficient in the manner in which chambers is administrated (clerked). He is confident that those qualities will endure despite the challenges facing the criminal bar.

Kevin is married with three children and is a Trustee of Bromley Town Church where he serves as part of the Leadership Team.

    Personal interests:

He is a keen walker, especially in his beloved Lakes. He is an enthusiastic road cyclist and also loves motorcycling, especially his Triumph Bonneville.
