Pupillage
-
Chambers subscribes to the OLPAS summer application scheme and presently offers three 12-month pupillages. These are funded pupillages offering £6,000, payable in even amounts throughout the initial six-month period and £5,000, guaranteed earnings in the practising (second six-month) period.
In addition, Chambers reimburses all pupils for their travel expenses, pays for all mandatory Bar Council-run or approved courses (required for successful completion of pupillage) and encourages each pupil to take up to 20 days holiday during the pupillage year (inclusive of public holidays).
Our selection process consists of three stages.
- All applications are assessed by the Pupillage Committee. Chambers is committed to encouraging a diverse and strong Criminal Bar and seeks to interview talented people from all backgrounds and walks of life.
- Those who impress are invited for interview. The interviews are fairly short but are designed to test the applicants’ legal knowledge, analytical skills and judgement.
- Successful interviewees will be invited to a second round, which generally combines a short advocacy exercise with a discussion period thereafter.
Each 12-month pupil will be allocated four pupil supervisors in the year to ensure that a broad range of work, skills and styles are observed. Supervisors will normally be located in a different part of chambers to ensure that each pupil has an opportunity to meet and spend time with as many tenants as possible.
Chambers runs in-house advocacy training throughout the year, conducted by tenants trained and accredited by their respective Inns of Court. These exercises are designed to help pupils in the areas most commonly experienced in their early days of practice.
We expect pupils to work hard and give 100% commitment; in return, Chambers undertakes to make pupillage a rewarding, enjoyable and challenging experience.
Chambers operates an Equal Opportunities Policy.
