The Chambers of John Coffey QC


  • Nicholas Corsellis has successfully defended a man caught driving a van loaded with £80 million pounds worth of cocaine. 

     

    The evidence was from undercover officers who had infiltrated the conspiracy and gave evidence as to the arrangements and negotiations.  The defendant was cell sited to the aborted attempt to collect the drugs five days before the arrest.  The defendant was recorded negotiating with the undercover officers.  The defendant lied in his interview and CCTV showed him being in company of a professional collection team.  He was found in possession of a list of instructions given to him telling him to “stake the area” and then drive to a location and re-load the van.  The Crown re-opened their case after the defence case relying on further cell site expert evidence in order to rebut the defendant’s evidence of alibi on the trial run.  This had to be challenged, after a 20 minute pause for instructions and preparation, as an incorrect and valueless analysis.  The co-defendants were sentenced to 28 years….
