Leesha Whawell

Leesha practices predominately in defence work although she also prosecutes. She has a general crime practice with a specific interest in financial crime. Recently she has been instructed to defend in a multi-handed tax evasion trial as led junior counsel. She has also appeared in the Court of Appeal.
Before joining Chambers as a pupil Leesha worked as a specialist fraud paralegal defending cases prosecuted by HM Customs & Revenue, the Serious Fraud Office and the British Transport Police.
Leesha is very personable. Her calm and professional manner assists in putting her clients at ease, at what is often a stressful time. She has an unfussy and natural style of advocacy.
Leesha is a member of Chambers’ Pupillage Committee.
She is also a member of the Criminal Bar Association, the Young Legal Aid Lawyers Association and JUSTICE.
Notable cases:
R v Turner (2007) - led junior in a two-month Customs fraud trial.
R v Pritchard (2007) – violent disorder in the Youth Court represented one of six defendants, all acquitted after trial.
