Martin is a criminal advocate first and foremost. In his mind when a defendant faces a system in which he or she has little or no resources to take on the might of the state, all the cases where he utilises his advocacy skills are significant. Whether they be for the humblest shoplifter or for the most sophisticated fraudster.

When he first came to the Bar over 20 years ago, Martin came with a sense that he was involving himself in the fight against injustice. Although it is easy to become cynical as the years pass (something he has seen in others in the legal profession) he is glad to say that his belief that as a criminal barrister he is on that ‘front line’ in the continuing fight against injustice, remains diminished.

Now as we enter a new era where the State has determined that the injustice will be ever increased, he has renewed his determination to dedicate himself to the fight.

Those who know him will also say that he is not someone who will shy away from the intellectual side of the Criminal law. He prides himself in enjoying the challenges that the intellectual side throws up.

Martin is a member of the Herts and Beds Bar Mess and a constituent member of the SE Circuit Bar Mess Committee.
