Tanya Ossack

1993

In a previous life, before being called to the Bar, Tanya was a Whitehall spin doctor working in Environment.

She had short spell in Downing Street and more recently completed a year at the Serious Fraud Office as Press Officer.

Currently Tanya undertakes mostly defence work involving sex cases, children and public disorder.

She was an independent member of the Parole Board from 2003-2010 and has recently been appointed as the 'Independant Person' for the purposes of the Localism Act 2011 which regulates the conduct of local politicians. Tanya was the Legal Advisor to the Independent Custody Visitors Association (ICVA) from 1994-2008, having been a founder member of the organisation in 1988.

In December 2011 Tanya was appointed by the Minister of Justice to the Independant Monitoring Board at HMP Wormwood Scrubs.

R v G - defendant charged with rape (Croydon Crown Court) - defendant acquitted following a three week trial

R v J - defendant charged with indecently with a child (St Albans Crown Court) - defendant acquitted following a five day trial

R v H - defendant charged with rape (Croydon Crown Court) - jury failed to agreed after a two week trial - re-trial pending

R v M - defendant charged with others of conspiracy to defraud in the 'sham marriage' trial (Inner London Crown Court). The case was dismissed following an abuse of process argument made at the end of the prosecution case

R v E - defendant charged with rape (Wood Green Crown Court) - defendant acquitted after a four day trial

R v C - defendant charged with rape (Hove Crown Court) - acquitted following a four day trial

R v S  - defendant charged with rape (Inner London Crown Court) - a successful submission of no case following four days of evidence

R v S - defendant charged with rape (Wood Green Crown Court) - following a seven day trial the jury failed to reach a verdict - the Crown subsequently discontinued the case

R v G  - defendant charged with assault penetration (Manchester Crown Court) - Instructed to represent the defendant in a serious sexual offences case. Acquitted on all counts

R v B - Instructed to represent the defendant in a case involving historic rapes (Isleworth Crown Court). Acquitted after a 10 day trial

R v P - rape (Croydon Crown Court) - Instructed to represent the defendant. Defendant acquitted following Tanya's submission of no case after the Crown's opening

R v A - wounding with intent (Snaresbrook Crown Court) - Instructed to represent the defendant and acquitted

R v F - witness intimidation and revenge (Croydon Crown Court) - Instructed to represent the defendant accused of witness intimidation (3 counts) and revenge (1 count). Acquitted on all counts

R v McN - rape (Woolwich Crown Court) - Instructed to represent the defendant. Acquitted after a 6 day trial 

R v R - rape & kidnap (Birmingham Crown Court) - Instructed to represent one of 6 defendants tried over a 5 week period

R v R - rape (Croydon Crown Court) - Instructed to represent the defendant. Acquitted after a 5 day trial

R v H - rape (Central Criminal Court) - Instructed to represent the defendant. Acquitted after a 5 day trial

R v P - rape (Woolwich Crown Court) - Instructed to defend - Crown offer no evidence

R v A & others - GBH with intent (Inner London Crown Court) - Instructed to defend - defendant aquitted following Tanya's subbmission of no case after a three week trial 

R v M - rape - (Croydon Crown Court) - Instructed to represent the defendant. Acquitted after a 7 day trial

R v H - rape - (Canterbury Crown Court) - Instructed to represent the defendant. Acquitted after a 5 day trial

R v G-M - rape - (Woolwich Crown Court) - Instructed to represent the defendant. Acquitted after 5 day trial

R v A-D & others - robbery (Croydon Crown Court) - Instructed to represent one of the main defendants. Acquitted after a 5 day trial

Notable Cases:

R v Dumbliauskas and Others - conspiracy to supply firearms with intention to enable others to endanger life - supply of Baikal guns.

R v Pacan, Arslan and Others - EWCA Crim 2436 - people trafficking for prostitution from Albania.

R v Perry Cooper. Led Junior - 14 year old charged with manslaughter of his step-father.

R v Marlow - Rape and serious sexual assault of 3 young family members.

R v Gurung and Others -  Led junior - joint enterprise murder

R v White and Others - Leading junior - Conspiracy to rape

R v Savell - Historic sexual abuse (32 years old)

R v Chandi - Stranger rape

R v Anobah - Shaken baby, injured but not fatally
