Beverley Da Costa has developed a flourishing practice representing clients at all stages of the criminal process, including young people charged with serious offences in the Youth Court.
She is instructed in all aspects of general crime, including drug offences, violent offences, sexual offences, and offences under the Theft Act and Fraud Act. In addition to her defence practice, she is currently a Level 2 Prosecutor on the CPS Advocate Panel List and prosecutes a range of offences at that level.
Beverley has a particular interest in working with vulnerable defendants, such as persons suffering from mental health issues and young people going through the criminal justice system. She has successfully appeared in matters involving such clients due to her ability to simplify legal advice, identify clients’ needs and assist them through the process.
She regularly represents clients in extradition matters and is currently a Level 1 Prosecutor on the CPS Extradition Specialist Advocate Panel. Beverley is also instructed in inquests, fare evasion matters, criminal behaviour orders and driving offences.
In addition to her criminal practice, she has developed a regulatory practice and is instructed by the Nursing & Midwifery Council in a range of different matters. She also accepts instructions in civil matters, as well as judicial review, having worked at the Government Legal Department on the Judicial Review team prior to joining the Bar.
Beverley is experienced disclosure counsel, having undertaken work for the Grenfell Enquiry and a secondment with the Crown Prosecution Service.
Beverley regularly appears for both the defence and prosecution in wide-ranging criminal matters.

Led Junior in an attempted murder trial in which the Crown relied on victim’s blood found on the defendant’s clothing, as well as expert evidence identifying the trainers worn by the defendant on CCTV footage of the attack.

Prosecuted a wounding case in which the defendant raised self-defence having struck the victim to the face with a glass.

Defended a man charged with possession with intent to supply a number of different Class A drugs.

Led Junior in a four-month long firearms case that involved tit-for-tat violence between two gangs.
Secured a suspended sentence for a client charged with GBH after dragging a police officer under his car.
Secured an acquittal for a client charged with fly-tipping in what was reported to be Test Valley Borough Council’s first loss.

Represented a client charged with sexual assault on a young female co-worker. Secured a suspended sentence after trial.

Secured a suspended sentence for a client charged with possession with intent to supply Class A Drugs.

Beverley has a keen interest in representing young people and regularly appears in the Youth Court representing defendants charged with serious offences.

Successfully defended a young person accused of being in possession of a ‘Rambo style’ knife.

Represented a young person charged with wounding on an off-duty police officer.

Represented a defendant charged with burglary. Made a successful submission of no case to answer, resulting in the dismissal of charges.
Beverley has worked as disclosure counsel on the Grenfell Inquiry reviewing a large quantity of documents and applying the disclosure principles.
She is also instructed in Extradition matters and is currently a Level 1 Prosecutor on the CPS Extradition Specialist Panel.

Appeared for the requested person raising the Article 3 and Article 8 grounds. A successful bail application made in the High Court despite extradition having been ordered at the final hearing.

Successful bail application for requested person who had previously breached bail numerous times.

Appeared in a final hearing for a requested person raising the Article 3 ground.
Beverley is regularly instructed as case presenter by the Nursing & Midwifery Counsel in a range of matters.
