Brad Lawlor has a busy practice across all of Chambers’ specialisms and appears in court on a daily basis.
Due to his varied practice, regular court attendance and experience appearing in a range of tribunals, he is a trusted advocate who is comfortable accepting instructions in new areas of law.
Brad specialises in general crime, with extensive experience as both prosecuting and defence counsel in the Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court. He is instructed to defend and prosecute a broad range of criminal offences, including serious violence, sexual offences, drugs, dishonesty and road traffic offences. He receives both public and private instructions, as well as dealing with a number of civil matters (including warrants of entry and CBOs) and extradition.
Brad has extensive experience in family law, specialising in representing parents in care and adoption proceedings. His work includes divorce, financial remedies, disputes between unmarried couples, private and international children cases, and jurisdiction disputes.
He has a range of experience in public law, encompassing diverse areas such as utilities regulation, economic sanctions, illegality and irrationality challenges, and statutory claims. He has also advised on a wide range of complex matters, from housing, healthcare and social welfare to data protection and freedom of information.
Prior to tenancy, Brad worked at the Law Commission on the Property, Family and Trusts Law Team, working primarily on the Enforcement of Family Financial Orders and other family law projects. He also worked as a law tutor for a number of years, teaching undergraduate and BPTC students in a wide range of subjects including criminal, family and public law. He has also provided lectures in subjects including corporate crime, confidentiality and privilege.
He undertook voluntary work at the BLAC Family Unit and Article 8 Project.
Brad has appeared for both the defence and the prosecution in numerous criminal proceedings. He is comfortable with the full range of criminal work from the Magistrates’ Court to the Court of Appeal.
He has extensive experience in representing defendants at trial at both the Magistrates’ Court and Crown Court. He is comfortable with the full range of criminal offences and other regulatory matters.
Given his strong academic background, Brad has been asked to advise on a number of complicated legal points and is comfortable taking instructions on this basis.
R v Naroei (2019)
He defended an ex-employee accused of burglarising his former employer. He secured not guilty convictions despite three eyewitnesses naming and accusing the defendant.
R v A (2019)
He represented a youth who had pushed the former British ambassador to the US, Sir Christopher Meyer, onto tube tracks. He managed to ensure the youth avoided jail and secured a community sentence.
R v Brown (2018-2019)
He represented a former Olympic athlete on numerous occasions charged with sexual assault. On each occasion, he secured not guilty verdicts.
Brad has represented parents in numerous care and adoption proceedings. He is comfortable representing clients throughout the entirety of the often lengthy and complicated process of public children proceedings.
He has represented parties in divorce proceedings and has ensured his clients achieve the best results, both financially and in terms of their long-term goals.
Brad has represented numerous defendants facing extradition and successfully protected clients from deportation.
Brad has represented a number of private individuals and companies in a range of civil matters including breach of contract, negligence and occupier’s liability.
