Francesca Hallett

Francesca Hallett has busy criminal practice across a broad range of offences and has extensive experience in defence work in the Crown Court and Magistrates Court.

She regularly appears in the Crown Court across the South East representing individuals at all stages of criminal proceedings and is a passionate trial advocate.

Before joining Chambers, Francesca worked at MK Law as a Solicitor Advocate.  She was also an Accredited Police Station Representative and as such, has amassed a large amount of experience in seeking to resolve matters at an early stage and dealing with defendants in, what can be, stressful situations.

Francesca qualified as a solicitor in 2016 and obtained Higher Rights of Audience in 2020 and is a CPS Panel Advocate.

Francesca prides herself on being approachable and pragmatic about the work she undertakes.

Featured Murder and Attempted Murder cases


R v AW

Led by John Femi Ola KC, represented a defendant charged with Murder, Manslaughter and Conspiracy to Commit Burglary alongside 5 other defendants at Bradford Crown Court. Their client was acquitted of Murder after 4 weeks at trial.

Featured Violent Crime cases


R v T

Suspended Sentence Order imposed after the defendant plead guilty to inflicting S.20 GBH and S.47 ABH level injuries against his 7 week old daughter.


R v RB

Successful Appeal Against Sentence at Inner London Crown Court whereby RB’s sentence was reduced from 51 weeks to 45 weeks after successfully arguing that the trebling of the starting point of the offence, after trial, was excessive in the circumstances. After time served, this resulted in RB’s imminent release from prison.


R v GH

Successful acquittal of a defendant after a four day trial at Northampton Crown Court. The defendant was charged with ABH after an alleged prolonged and violent assault on his ex partner. He was also accused of breaching his Non Molestation Order against the same complainant only a few weeks later. The defendant was acquitted on both counts.


R v FH

Defendant sentenced to a period of custody which was suspended, having pleaded guilty to repeatedly stabbing a member of the public to the back.


R v KB

Acquittal of defendant at the Central Criminal Court for conspiracy with six others to transfer a firearm and ammunition. All were acquitted unanimously. Francesca was led by Puneet Grewal at 3TG Barristers.


R v EW

The Crown offered no evidence at Croydon Crown Court after careful consideration of the Crown’s CCTV found that the serious offence the defendant was charged with had not been made out in law.


R v D

Acquittal of defendant charged with possession of 3 knives, involving issues of forensics and identification by police officers.


R v JB

Acquittal of a vulnerable defendant at the Central Criminal Court of ABH involving numerous prosecution witnesses.


R v DD- Oxford CC

Trial involving allegations of threatening a vulnerable person with a knife in his own property and causing him ABH level injuries was stopped at Half Time by the Judge. It was deemed, after Cross Examination of the Officer in the Case, that the evidence was weak and contradictory and declined to allow the trial to continue. DD had Not Guilty verdicts entered by the jury on direction of the Judge

R v M

Suspended Sentence Order successfully argued after the defendant pleaded guilty to being in possession of medical information regarding members of the public on a mobile phone whilst in prison, having been sent to him by his co-defendant. The defendant accepted that the information was held in order to use as revenge against previous partners.


R v KD

Led by Jide Lanlehin, represented a defendant who, alongside 2 other defendants, faced 17 counts of Cheating the Revenue and Furnishing False Information with a value of over £1.5 million. The trial took place over 10 weeks and involved analysis of large volumes of HMRC and accountancy documentation.


R v DG-

Successful ‘half time’ argument at Woolwich Crown Court which resulted in the acquittal of a defendant charged with a commercial burglary


R v JG

Acquittal of defendant charged with handling numerous high value bicycles stolen during the Covid pandemic

R v HS

Defendant sentenced to a suspended sentence after pleading guilty to, whilst in their employment as a prison officer, conveying cannabis and tobacco into prison.


R v JW

After a 2-day hearing at Woolwich Crown Court regarding cannabis growth, specifically yield potentials and optimal growing conditions, the Judge found in the defendant’s favour and was sentenced to 2 year suspended prison sentence.


R v CB

Success at Woolwich Crown Court for the acceptance of a plea to a lesser charge regarding a large amount of Class A drugs after establishing significant failings in the police investigation
