Jonathan Woodcock is a senior leading junior whose practice is exclusively defence based.
He has accrued extensive experience as a specialist defence counsel and is instructed to act across a wide spectrum of the most serious criminal cases. He has a reputation for being both sympathetic and straight-talking in his representation of clients, and spares no effort on their behalf. He has considerable experience in dealing with heavy paper cases involving complex telephone data and cell site analysis.
Away from the challenges of criminal defence, he enjoys taking part in cycling challenges to support charitable causes. He rode from London to Paris for Marie Curie Cancer Care, and from London to Berlin for Pancreatic Cancer UK. He is also a keen woodcarver.
Jonathan has represented clients in numerous organised crime matters, in particular those in which the careful analysis of telephone data and cell site data has proved the key to a successful outcome.

Central Criminal Court. It was the defence analysis of cell site data that secured the acquittal of the defendant in a substantial kidnapping and extortion operation.

a case involving the importation of hundreds of kilos of cannabis.

a case involving the supply of a substantial quantity of Class A drugs.

a complex and wide-ranging organised customs evasion case. Helped achieve the only acquittal of a defendant in the case.

a mafia-type kidnap and gang rape case.
R v K
an attempted murder case in which a car mechanic’s aggrieved client arranged to have him shot. Defendant was acquitted of main charge.
R v T
a gangland conspiracy to murder case, in which the defendants from Birmingham were hired to shoot an ex-business partner. Acquitted.
R v BC
a case which attracted national attention. The murder of a popular grandmother by her neighbour in a quiet village.
Jonathan has substantial experience in representing clients facing charges of the most serious levels of assault, robbery and aggravated burglary.
Jonathan is experienced in handling cases of causing death/serious injury by dangerous driving.
Jonathan has been involved in cases with allegations of large-scale money laundering, in which the defendants are operating informal money business transfer systems (such as ‘Hawala’) with their origins in traditional societies.
