Gemma Noble successful in defending a client accused of assisting unlawful immigration

Gemma Noble

Gemma Noble, instructed by Gordon Crowe of Dunbar Solicitors, represented ‘DS’ who was acquitted by a jury at Canterbury Crown Court of assisting unlawful immigration into the United Kingdom.

Her client and another (the driver, who pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing) were stopped at the UK border in a vehicle. Gemma’s client was the front seat passenger. Hidden behind the dashboard was a Vietnamese national. The case involved a successful argument to exclude over 5,000 pages of prosecution evidence that was served on the first day of trial. The defence was one of knowledge, that her client did not know or believe the immigrant was hidden behind the dashboard.
