Michael Stradling successfully defends lorry driver in £4 million cigarette smuggling trial

Michael Stradling

Michael Stradling, instructed by Gordon Crowe of Dunbar Solicitors, successfully represented a Polish lorry driver accused of smuggling nearly 10 million cigarettes into Dover. The duty evaded was in excess of £4 million. Mr Stradling dealt with expert tachograph evidence, evidence from UK Border force officers and HMRC investigators. The defendant claimed he was no more than an innocent driver who had been used by others. The jury at Southwark Crown Court took just over 2 hours to unanimously acquit Mr Stradling’s client.
