Matthew Keliris-Thomas prosecuted a 23-year-old man who had been carrying out a casual relationship with a woman he went on to physically assault. During a conversation in the early hours of the morning, the victim realised she was unwittingly part of an affair, the Defendant was cheating on his girlfriend using her. She objected and ultimately slapped the Defendant to the face. Following this confrontation he was found by the jury to have strangled her, as the victim described – until nearly unconscious while making threats to kill.
The Defendant was acquitted of a further count of Actual Bodily Harm.
