Neena Crinnion, leading Shanice Mahmud, secures acquittal of their client, ES, after an 8 week trial at the Central Criminal Court

Neena Crinnion and Shanice Mahmud, instructed by Kevin Bowles at Sperrin Law, have secured the acquittal of their client ES charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, threatening with a bladed article, affray and possession of a bladed article. He was acquitted of all counts.

ES’ co-defendant, a youth, who was also charged with the aforementioned four offences, was further charged with murder and two counts of attempted murder. The co-defendant was convicted of murder, both counts of attempted murder, possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, affray and possession of a bladed article.

During the course of the trial, the co-defendant’s legal team accused ES of the murder and attempted murders, despite ES not ever having been charged with any of those offences. This highly unorthodox approach advanced by the co-defendant’s legal team was wholeheartedly rejected by the jury.

The trial involved a continuous stream of late disclosure, including an 18,000 page phone download, served by the Prosecution on the first day of trial, along with expert phone evidence and CCTV evidence, requiring counsel to review numerous hours of footage.
