Charlie Durrant wins Appeal

Charles Durrant

Charlie Durrant was today successful in over turning 3 youth court convictions at Harrow Crown Court for offences of s.18 GBH, Affray and possession of a bladed article after a 4 day Appeal. The case involved a life threatening stabbing in Barnet in the summer of 2017. There were positive identifications of the Appellant from both the complainant and eye witness and separately from a police officer looking at CCTV of moments after the attack. Clothes and a similar knife were seized as that described, from the Appellant’s home address.

However what began as a compelling case ended very differently when applications were successful to exclude reference to the knife seized and the police’s identification from CCTV. The remaining positive identifications, after careful cross examination, appeared both tainted and fundamentally flawed.

Instructions and assistance were provided by Ben Darabi and Ed Brown of Carson Kaye Solicitors.
