Tom Cockroft secures unanimous acquittal of carer

Tom Cockroft

Tom Cockroft secures unanimous acquittal of carer accused of scalding a patient in bathwater (GBH).

After a 19-year career looking after elderly and otherwise vulnerable patients in care homes, Ms X was accused of inflicting grievous bodily harm to a patient by scalding him in bathwater resulting in third degree burns. It was alleged that she had done so deliberately or recklessly, by failing to check the temperature. Cross-examination revealed that, unbeknownst to the carer, the thermostat at the care home was set dangerously high. In the event, the jury returned a unanimous verdict of not guilty.

Tom was instructed by Paul Oyemike of Dillex Solicitors
