R v G [2025] ‘Exceptionally unlikely exceptional circumstances success’

Charles Durrant

Charles Durrant was successful today in arguing exceptional circumstances to avoid the mandatory minimum term in the case of a well known boxer in possession of a loaded firearm (whilst being a prohibited person and whilst being under surveillance). It was a rare occasion where the Judge lent reliance on a pre guideline authority with which we were substantially on all fours. Sentence reduced to 12 months imprisonment which led to his immediate release.

Counsel was ably assisted by Gordon Crowe of Dunbars Solicitors.
