The NCA investigation lasted 6 months and was said to have uncovered a lengthy and widespread conspiracy across numerous Middle East countries to smuggle migrants through a number of EU countries (at least Croatia, Germany, Italy and Romania). The BBC expose – https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m00262zr/bbc-wales-investigates-undercover-people-smugglers – estimated 10,000 migrants were trafficked by the conspirators.
The trial at Cardiff CC was heard before the Hon Recorder of Cardiff.
