Siobhan Cawkwell has a busy criminal practice and is regularly instructed in a wide range of criminal matters on both a publicly and privately funded basis.
She has experience dealing with a wide range of criminal offences including violent offences, domestic abuse, drugs, weapons, and dishonesty offences. She is also experienced in representing clients charged with motoring offences and who are at risk of disqualification.
Siobhan has experience prosecuting for the RSPCA, Trading Standards, the Insolvency Service and is a CPS Grade 2 prosecutor.
R v AH [2025]
Defendant acquitted of stalking causing serious alarm or distress following a 6-day trial. Privately instructed.
R v JL [2025]
Defendant charged with two counts of robbery. Following a 3-day Voir Dire, extensive legal submissions to exclude the Crown’s evidence which relied predominantly on the defendants’ repeated confessions, the Judge excluded the confession evidence. As a result, the application to dismiss both counts of robbery was successful.
R v MO [2025]
Defendant acquitted of intentional strangulation and assault by beating after a 3-day trial.
R v SC [2025]
Successful opposition of Crown’s hearsay argument. Prosecution subsequently offered no evidence on s18 wounding.
R v RA [2024]
Defendant acquitted of dangerous driving. Case relied on the identification evidence of two police officers and ANPR photographs.
R v NS [2024]
Successful opposition of the Crowns hearsay application to adduce evidence under s116 CJA 2003. The Crown subsequently offered no evidence.
R v MJ [2024]
Successful exclusion of the telephone evidence that the Crown sought to rely on. After consideration of the remaining evidence, a guilty plea was accepted to the lesser offence of permitting premises to be used. The prosecution offered no evidence on the 10 count Indictment, resulting in the defendant’s imminent release.
R v YM [2023]
Defendant acquitted of stalking, ABH and criminal damage following a 5-day trial.
R v DC [2025]
Defendant pleaded guilty to driving without undue care and attention. 5 penalty points imposed which enabled the learner driver to avoid disqualification.

R v HH [2023]
Defendant sentenced to a suspended sentence for conveying article A items (cannabis) into prison.
R v LW [2025]
Successful appeal against sentence. The Court of Appeal quashed the original sentence of 21 months immediate imprisonment and imposed a 15-month suspended sentence.
