Patrick Harte commences a trial today in the defence of a man accused of Violent Disorder in the context of the English Defence League (EDL) riots which took place in July 2013 in Birmingham.

EDL supporters had gathered in Centenary Square from about noon while opposition groups gathered in Chamberlain Square. The demonstration descended into violence with almost 60 people being indicted as part of the operation.

Patrick's defendant, a former skinhead, is accused of taking part in a violent attack upon a photographer and also acting threateningly against the police front line.
